And A Most Joyous Bealtane To You!
May. 1st, 2007 10:43 pmFor once, the Bealtane full moon corresponds to the calendar date.
I sat outside, earlier, contemplating the moon, and the whisper of quiet voices on the wind. This is one of two times during the year when the Veil is thin, the second being Samhain. I am burning a candle and some champa flower incense to commemorate the festival.
I was thinking about how the Father God is born, then grows old, and finally dies in the winter, only to be reborn, and how he and the Maiden Goddess frolic and consummate Their Relationship on Bealtane. Goddess is always present, though she also is young, then middle-aged, then old. She embodies the Earth and the Moon. She nourishes, Heals, and refreshes; She also defends, and strikes down those who seek to harm Her and Her Own.
This is a Fire Festival, and yet, Goddess plays a very central role. It's almost easy to forget that it's a Fire - aka God-oriented - Festival, isn't it? Well, it is for me, who Dedicated to Goddess well before I Dedicated to God.
It's cool, yet strangely warm at the same time outside; we have a little humidity for a change. The land around is vibrant and restless with new life. I am finding it quite the journey to learn what makes the Desert special. There is a lot more Life out here than one would at first imagine.
Happy Bealtane, may you enjoy your summer!
