I wanted to make sure I posted this before I laid down. I'm exhausted from being up all day and my face hurts. I'm almost done with the antibiotics and my face is still hurting and that's not a good sign.

I managed to connect with a lawyer I found through findlaw.com who will give us a full consultation and advice for $100.

I also spoke to the tax assessor who told me who to get a hold of as far as a deed on this place. It turns out that mobile homes don't have deeds, they have titles, just like a vehicle (which makes me wonder why we then pay property taxes on them...).

The title to this place is held by the company I've been paying all these years. I'm responsible for the taxes, because I am the registered resident.

That makes what he's trying to do all that more suspicious.

I've faxed all correspondence to the lawyer, and filled him in on the details I found out, today.

Now I better get some rest; my body is not reacting well at all to this threat to my personal security.

Rest over the weekend, order more antibiotics and next week you two can try to find their business license and incorporation papers (if any)and make copies of everything you find, there should be a copy machine in the relevant office though some government offices like to charge set fees for copies. I know it's hard to find the energy to do things right now but the more you find out up front the less it will cost to get the paperwork done since paperwork searches cost as much as face to face with a lawyer (a billable hour is a billable hour) With any luck you will be able to get this settled.

You're paying property taxes not on the home, but on the land underneath it, which you are probably renting from wherever you've parked the house. Which is a truly suck-ass situation if the landowner decides to sell and the new owner wants all the houses off of their new land.

No, we aren't - our house is considered "improvements" and we're paying taxes on that. We rent the land so they can't charge us taxes on the land. The tax rate is based entirely on how much the mobile home is valued.

Huh. That's really weird, then. Because the people who own the land are probably paying property taxes on it, but that should be figured into the land rent cost. Interesting that they're treating it like a house one way and a car another. I would hope the lawyer can get that clarified, because the way it is now, it sounds like you're paying taxes twice.

I will make sure to ask him about that, because I've thought it was weird all the way along. I'm on rented land and I'm not on a permanent foundation.

Trailer houses have their own set of weird laws. I didn't know if they applied to a double wide, but it looks like that's a yes. They are titled like a motor vehicle and then taxed like a house, except when you decide to move one and get road taxes too.

Good luck. The universe has been hrd on you for a very long time. I hope your day is coming.

I know you don't rant like Nebs but you are there and clearly have been suffering for a very long time.
