I hate Korporate Amerika.

Creditors are fast to report you to the credit bureaus when you owe them money, sometimes reporting you before you even have a chance to do anything about it.

They don't appear to care, however, about removing their entries once they've been paid.

A little over a month ago, thanks to my cousin Jon, I paid off a bunch of debts on my credit report. I waited the requisite month, and guess what?

Each and every one of the fucking debts are still listed as owed.

WHY is it on ME that I have to contact these credit bureaus to get these debts taken off? WHY can't the DEBTORS do their part and remove them once they get their money?

WHY IS IT YOU CAN'T DEPEND ON OTHERS TO DO THEIR PART ONCE YOU'VE DONE YOURS?

Now I have to harass three credit bureaus to get these entries taken off, and watch - they'll make me wait ANOTHER MONTH before things are clear.

i know how these fuckers are and that's why i still rent.
i went to my bank years ago to just inquire about the mortgage process, and then asked friends....terrified!

one wrong move and you're in their crosshairs.
i think you're amazing to be in it, dealing with it, taking the steps you need to secure your home.

it's a huge thing to be proud of, L.

in the meantime

I learned the hard way I had to watch my credit like a hawk. After the bankruptcy, I waited about a year before I looked at my credit. When I did, I found a TON of stuff that should have been removed, but wasn't. These days I regularly check it and dispute things as needed. I'm going on 8 years post-bankruptcy and I STILL find shit that should have been removed, but hasn't.

Its a pain in the ass, but worth the work. I went from thinking I would NEVER be in a position to own my own home, to thinking that if I play my cards right I might just qualify for a mortgage in a year.
