The vet

I have a situation.

The cat (pictured below) is named Grimalkin and he's been my furbaby for nearly 13 years. Right now, he has an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment.

I also have trolls on LJ that love to make my life miserable; I imagine more than one person reading this can relate. Well, somehow, one of them got our address, and called Animal Control on us.

We don't have the money to take him into the vet but thanks to the trolls we have to have him seen within 48 hours. I'm asking for Grimmy (our nickname for him), not for myself.

Here is a donation button if you can help, any amount is appreciated:

If you want more information, by all means, message me and I'll answer any questions. Also, if you'd rather donate to the animal hospital in Grimalkin's name, we are taking him here. We have an appointment for him tomorrow (Jan 21) at 4PM.

Thanks to all in advance.

Hiya. I'm so sorry to hear about this. Do you know if it _is_ just a respiratory infection and not kidney failure or something more drastic? The bill may not be as much as you'd expect. Of course, ANY amount when you Just Don't Have the Money, is TOO DAMN MUCH. *sighs* When you take him in to the vet, please ask about Care Credit. It works kind of like a credit card. And they _do_ cover vet care. The vet should have applications. I wish I could help you guys out. But I have no money myself. Sorry.

They did mention Care Credit; since I have credit cards that are overdue, I doubt very much they'd give it to me. I suggested M try and apply.

Thanks.

Hugs,

Yeah, that might make things difficult. If M gets refused, at least try. That's all you can do, really. The worst that can happen is getting another ding on your credit score, and if you already have overdue credit cards, it doesn't much matter. Did you ask animal control if they had any sort of charity funds you could use? Some places do charity for low income pet owners.

Also, if food is tight, you could look into food banks in your area. Also, Salvation Army, Goodwill, might be able to help with rent and utilities. Have you applied for HEAP? They help with utilities, weatherization, that sort of thing. Who provides your phone, electricity, gas? Sometimes the utility companies themselves have programs to help low income individuals, especially those who are disabled.

I hope there is some way you can make everything work.

We're on SoCal Edison's CARE program for our utilities. What is really killing us is the high "rent" we are paying the guy we are buying the house from. It's a catch-22: We need a mortgage but the economy tanked and my credit score now sucketh donkey balls. An agreement that was supposed to last just a year has now stretched to nearly three.

Animal Control told me to tell my vet that they gave me a 48-hour notice and they were certain the vet would authorize a payment plan. WRONG. I called several vets in the area and NONE of them will let us pay in installments.

Thank you so much for your encouragement.
