Then I want them to dress you in a secondhand T-shirt, secondhand tidie whities, and secondhand cheap sneakers, and provide you with one change of the same in a paper bag. Oh no, you don't get a winter coat, nor do you get toiletries. You have to find those on your own.
Then, I want them to deposit you on the steps of the worst shelter that can be found in Los Angeles. I want them to tell you that you get to live with a maximum of $830/month and Medi-Cal benefits. You don't get to have your fancy meals, or your tailored suits, or any of the other luxuries you take for granted. Let's see how easy it is for you to get those teeth fixed or get treatment in a public clinic if you get sick, or your back starts to hurt from not being able to walk correctly. I want to see how far you can stretch $830 for food, clothing, and shelter.
THEN let's see how you'll feel about cutting the rug out from underneath the poor by cutting SSI, Medi-Cal, and IHSS!
